Journal:
According to a
compass rose this arrow is facing east. Explain how a reflection (flip) over
the y-axis, a rotation (turn) counter-clockwise, and translation (slide) 4
units down would affect the direction of this arrow. Which direction according
to a compass rose would the arrow be facing after each transformation?

If the arrow is facing east and is then flipped on an x-axis and slide down to the y-axis; the arrow would be facing the west. I say this because the arrow is mirrored and then slide down so it is possible for it reflect the other arrow on the east.

Hi Spencer, so after the initial reflection the arrow would be facing east, but what if it were then rotated counter-clockwise 90- degrees it would be facing south and the direction would remain the same after a slide (translation). Be sure to completely answer journal prompts in the future.

ReplyDeleteThe direction the arrow would be facing the west because in the mirrior it facing left then moving it it will turn to the west.

ReplyDeleteIf the arrow were to become a reflection then it would flip. It would face in in the opposite direction. According to the compass rose it would face west.
ReplyDeleteIf the compass rose were to rotate then it would turn. Therefore it would face in the different direction. It could be facing north, south, east or west depending on how much it turned.
If the arrow were to translate, then it would face in the same direction but be in a different place. It would be facing east.
Hi Kyle, this is an excellent journal response! My only comment is that the journal prompt did indicate that the arrow would rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise. From the westward direction this would now face the arrow south. Keep up the good work, make sure you carefully read each component of the journal prompt!

The arrow would be facing west because if u flip it, it would be in the opposite direction then it was originally facing.
ReplyDeleteHi Megan, this is great for the first part of the prompt which asked for the direction after the reflection. What about the rotation and the translation. It is imperative that you answer all components of the journal prompts in order to receive an exemplary grade!
